Architectural Services FAQs

What’s the difference between an architect and a drafter?

An architect is a licensed professional trained to design buildings and spaces that are visually compelling, functional, safe, and code-compliant. Architects guide projects from concept through construction, balancing aesthetics, site conditions, regulations, and budget. They also have the expertise to navigate permitting and regulatory approvals - helping move your project forward smoothly and legally.

A drafter (or drafting technician) creates technical drawings - typically based on designs from an architect or engineer. While highly skilled in drafting software, drafters generally do not provide design services or architectural consultation.

Do you offer construction oversight?

Yes. Construction administration - which includes site visits, contractor coordination, and quality review - is included in our Full Architectural Service, unless otherwise requested. We highly recommend this phase to help ensure your design is carried out accurately and aligns with the design intent.

Do you work with outside contractors and consultants?

Yes! We regularly coordinate with structural engineers, MEP consultants, and other specialists to ensure your project meets all requirements for permitting and construction.

We don’t have a builder in mind. Can you recommend someone?

Absolutely. We've built strong relationships with trusted local builders and are happy to recommend someone whose experience and approach align with the goals of your project.

Will you help me choose materials and finishes?

Yes. When you hire us for Full Architectural Services, material and finish selections for both the exterior and interior are included. This encompasses Interior Design services as part of the overall scope.

We provide thoughtfully curated selections and specifications for:

  • Finishes

  • Appliances

  • Plumbing fixtures

  • Lighting

  • Hardware

  • Window treatments, if desired

How much do your services cost?

Every project is unique, so our fees are tailored based on your specific scope, timeline, and goals. After an initial conversation, we’ll prepare a customized proposal that reflects the needs of your project.

In addition to design fees, it’s important to budget for other potential costs - such as construction, contractor fees, permits, and consultant services (structural or MEP engineers, for example). We’ll walk through these considerations in our first meeting to ensure you have a clear understanding of the overall project investment.
